On Monday 27th October a group of campaigners and survivors of prostitution met with Ed Miliband MP, Yvette Cooper MP and Seema Malhotra MP to urge the Labour Party to back the Sex Buyer Law.

At present, prostitution is legal in the UK, although particular activities surrounding it – such as brothel keeping – are illegal. The Sex Buyer Law works to end the demand that fuels the ‘supply’ of vulnerable women and girls in to the sex trade by criminalising the purchase of sex, decriminalising the sale of sex and providing support and exiting services for those exploited through prostitution.

During the meeting, survivors of prostitution shared their experiences and perspectives on why prostitution laws need to change with the Labour leader, Shadow Home Secretary, and Shadow Minister for Preventing Violence Against Women and Girls.
