NGO launched by sex trade survivors

SPACE International – a new global organisation dedicated to ending commercial sexual exploitation – has been launched in New York by a group of sex trade survivors.  SPACE (Survivors of Prostitution-Abuse Calling for Enlightenment) “aims to raise the public’s consciousness of the violence of prostitution and to encourage governments to address the world’s oldest oppression,” said SPACE board member, Norma Ramos.

SPACE is urging governments around the world to adopt the Sex Buyer Law (or ‘Nordic Model’) and is supporting the UK’s End Demand campaign.

The launch of SPACE International has been welcomed by former US President Jimmy Carter. The organisation’s Inaugural Summit is taking place from 14 th- 18th October in New York City.
